Abstract

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurogedenerativedisorder caused by both genetic and environmental factorswhich end up in dopaminergic neuron damage at substantianigra resulting in motor and non motor symptoms (1- 15). Becauseof the old age, movement disability and feding problems,PD patients have a tendency for osteoporosis (16-27). Somegastrointestinal problems in Parkinson’s disease starting withswallowing problems cause low body mass index which is a riskfactor for osteoporosis. In countries with relatively higher percentage of older populationssuch as Turkey, chronic diseases and related conditionsruin the life quality, increase the need of caregivers and highcosts. The factors which cause osteoporotic fractures in the PDpatients with high risk of falls should be revealed in order toprevent these complications.
