Abstract

The direct relations between the Turks and the Arabs, which started during the period of Four Caliphes, created ground for positive interactions between the two nations. First of all, the Turks were taken into service during the Umayyads. The Turks who are notable for their battle abilities among the Arab clans were the pioneers to build a new insurrection in the Islamic civilisation by means of that power. They became the backbone of the Abbasid army after their help with the Abbasid insurrection. Their influce and power rose notably under the first caliphes of the Abbasids and thus they earned high ranks both in provinces and the centre of the empire. This first Turkish presence in the Islamic world between 232-334 A.H./.847-945 A.D., constitutes the “First Turkish Influence” seen before the Seljuqs in the Abbasids. In this period, the Turks became more of political figures who steered the whell of administration than being simple soldiers. Then again, they also established three independent states- two in Egypt, one in Azerbaijan-;they are the Tulunids and the Ikhshids in Egypt and the Sadjids in Azerbaijan
