Abstract

in this study, we tried to examine log-term developments in the growth rates of the Turkish economy both at aggregate and sectoral levels. Evaluations were made by a different approach in accordance with the Markov Chain a special subject in stochastic process instead of parametric and nonparametric technigue. A number of Markov transition matrices are defined far different periods from 1924 to 2006. The aim of this paper is to obser~ve the changes in steady-state probabilities and differeııces of steady-state growth rates far different periods. Hence ıısing inferences with respect to long-term trends in aggregate and sectoral growth processes made il possible to examine periodic ejfects of sectors on aggregate growth rates. İt was calcıdated that the steadystate growth rate far the Turkish economy is 5.1 percent. At the sectoral level this growth rate was 3.4 percent far agricultural sector, 6.9 percent far industria! sector and 5.2 percent far services sector. Findings of the study indicated a regime changes in the early 1960's both at aggregate and sectoral levels.
