Abstract

Objective: Nocturnal enuresis is not treated by families despite the negative effects on sociological life and psychological development of children. In our study we investigated the cause of parents why they don’t treat their sons in the Elazığ. Materials and Methods: 94 out of 1134 children who applied to our urology department between June 2008 and December 2009 for circumcision who were not treated because of nocturnal enuresis were included to study. The family who have son were questioned why they didn’t get their sons to treat. Results were determined as a percent. Results: Belief in infertility effects of drugs was determined in 24 (34%) out of 50 patients from rural areas, improvement hope after circumcision in 17( 34%) patients and spontaneous improvement expectations were determined in 9 (18%) patients. İn urban areas spontaneous improvements expectations were determined in 17 (38,6%) of 44 patients, improvment hope after circumcision 14 (31,8%) and belief in infertility effect of drugs in 13 (29,6%) patients. Conclusion: Male children with nocturnal enuresis are not treated by the parents because of belief in spontaneous improvement or recovery by circumcision and confidence of infertility of the drugs. This effect the sociological life and psychological development of children negatively. Therefore, society must absolutely be informed about nocturnal enuresis and therapy modalities.
