Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the theoretical and experimental results of effective thermal conductivity of porous building stones. in the theoretical part of study, the mathematical model was developed for the calculation of effective thermal conductivity of porous stones. in this model, the random and complex geometric shape porous in stone was accepted as the cubic form, and total volumetric wideness of porous in the stone was taken as the porosity parameter. For the calculation of the porosity parameter, the density method was used to solve the problem. The equation derived was then applied to some eight different stones that were vvidely used in the construction industry of the southeast region of Turkey for predicting thermal conductivities. it was shown that theoretical and experimental values are agreeable. Each sample of stones from two different sources was taken. Their chemical composition, thermal conductivities, specific heat capacities, water absorption properties and mechanical strengths were determined. The results were compared with the other conventional building material.
