Abstract

Abstract: A coronary by-pass operation was performed on a 50 year-old patient four months ago. Surgical site infection occurred in the sternum. Corynebacterium jeikeium (C. jeikeium) was isolated from drainage material. This isolate was resistant to most antibiotics. Teicoplanin was administered for the treatment. The patient died because of mediastinitis, nosocomial pneumonia and congestive heart failure. The case was presented and discussed since it was due to a rare cause of surgical site infection.

Özet

Özet: Dört ay önce koroner by-pass operasyonu geçiren 50 yaşindaki erkek hastada sternotomi yerinde cerrahi alan infeksiyonu gelişti. Yara akıntı kültüründe Corynebacterium jeikeium (C. jeikeium) izole edildi. Etken bir çok antibiyotiğe dirençliydi. Tedavide teikoplanin verildi. Hasta mediastinit, nozokomiyal pnömoni ve kalp yetmezliği nedeniyle kaybedildi. Olgu, ender görülmesi nedeniyle sunuldu ve tartışıldı.
