Abstract

In this study our aim was to investigate the effects of HD (Hemodialysis) and CAPD (Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis) treatments on the plasma total homocysteine (tHs) concentrations as an arteriosclerotic risk factor. In addition it was determined that the relationship between plasma tHs and folic acid, vit. B12 concentration serum albumin, urea reduction ratio (URR) and KW in HD and CAPD patients. Twenty two HD, 18 CAPD .patients (28 male, 12 female) and 24 healthy controls (10 male, 14 female) were enrolled in this study. In HD and CAPD patients mean age was 53.04±15.85, 47.44±15.49 years and mean time on dialysis was 30.00±22.30, 22.61 ±14.10 months respectively. In healthy volunters mean age was 50.91 ±8.71 years. All HD patients were on 1.5 mg/day folate, 10 mg/day vit. B6, 30 meg/day vit. B12. Plasma tHs, serum urea, creatinine, albumin, vit. B12 and folic acid concentrations were measured and URR, KtA/ were calculated in the patients. Plasma tHs were also measured in healthy controls In the HD, the CAPD patients and the healthy controls the mean plasma tHs concentrations were 10.95±4.32 nmol/L, 13.85±8.58 nmol/L and 9.18±2.08 (mol/L respectively. There was no difference between the HD and the CAPD patients and the HD and the healthy controls for plasma tHs concentrations (p>0.05). The mean plasma tHs concentration was higher in the CAPD patients compared to the control group (p

Özet

Bu çalışmada öncelikli amacımız, Hemodiyaliz (HD) ve sürekli ayaktan periton diyalizi (SAPD) tedavilerinin ateroskleroz gelişiminde risk faktörü olan plazma total homosistein (tHs) düzeyi üzerine etkisini araştırmaktır. Ayrıca, plazma tHs ile folik asit, vit. B12, serum albumin, üre azalma oranı (URR), KtA/ arasındaki ilişki değerlendirilecektir. Yirmi ikisi HD, 18'i SAPD tedavisi gören toplam 40 hasta (28 erkek, 12 kadın) ve sağlıklı kontrol grubunu oluşturan 24 kişi (10 erkek, 14 kadın) çalışmaya alındı.
