Abstract

In literature, increased prevalance of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in type 2 diabetes mellitus(DM) patients has recently been reported. We aimed to investigate HCV infection prevalance in type 2 DM patients. 60 type 2 DM patients (44 female, 16 male, mean age: 55, range: 40-86) were enrolled in the study. In these patients, anti-HCV an-tibodies and HBsAg positivity were investigated by ELISA. As a control group, blood donors were used. Chi-square test was used for statistical analysis. In type 2 DM patients, anti-HCV antibodies and HBsAg positivity were founded as 12% (7/60) and 7% (4/60), respectively. In blood donors , anti-HCV antibodies and HbsAg positivity were found as 0,8% (104/12513) and 4% (567/14317), respectively. Anti-HCV positivity of type 2 DM patients was found higher than blood donors (p
