Abstract

To compare plasma ghrelin levels in adolescent girls with polycystic ovary syndrome and healthy subjects. For the study 36 adolescent girls diagnosed as polycystic ovary syndrome (22 obese and 14 lean) and 15 healthy girls were analyzed for fasting plasma ghrelin levels. Oral glucose tolerance test was performed for the calculating the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance. Plasma ghrelin levels were similar in healthy adolescents and adolescent girls with polycystic ovary syndrome unrelated to obesity: In obese girls the mean ghrelin was 364.13±157.97 pg/ml, in lean girls it was 343.26±182.65 pg/ml, in healthy controls it was 335.76±177.85 pg/ml. No statistically meaningful relation existed between ghrelin levels and insulin resistance, body mass index, free testesterone levels, luteinizing hormone/folliclestimulating hormone ratios. Although obese girls with polycystic ovary syndrome were slightly more insulin resistant, androgenemic parameters were similar to lean girls with polycystic ovary syndrome. Plasma ghrelin levels didn't seemed to be linked to polycystic ovary syndrome since there was no significant difference in girls with polycystic ovary syndrome and healthy controls.

Özet

Polikistik over sendromu tanısı almış adölesan kızlarda plazma ghrelin düzeylerini ölçmek ve sağlıklı kontrol grubuyla kıyaslamak. Çalışmamız için polikistik over sendromlu 36 adölesan kız (22'si obez, 14'ü normal kilolu) ve sağlıklı 15 adölesan kız çocuk seçilerek plazma ghrelin düzeyleri ölçüldü. Insülin direncini tespit etmek için oral glukoz tolerans testi yapılarak "homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance" hesaplandı. Obezitenin varlığından bağımsız olmak üzere plazma ghrelin düzeyleri polikistik over sendromlu kızlarda ve sağlıklı kontrollerde benzer bulundu. Polikistik over sendromlu obez adölesanlarda 364.13±157.97 pg/ml, normal kiloda olanlarda 343.26±182.65 pg/ml, sağlıklı kontrollerde ise 335.76±177.85 pg/ml idi.
