Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus has been reached to nearly 300 million people in next 20 years. Diabetic foot is one of the most common complications of diabetes mellitus in recent years. The main cause of lower extremity amputation is the foot ulcers. On the other hand, the commonest problem among diabetic foot is the diabetic neuropathy. At first admission, the general health status and appropriate treatment modalities for control of diabetes mellitus must be planned. As an important complication, osteomyelitis must be always kept in mind. For diagnosis of osteomyelitis, radiological assessments according to patient's status including X-ray, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and bone scan. The most important target in treatment of diabetic foot disease is the patient education. Both for the evaluation and for the treatment, diabetic foot team must be constituted.
