Abstract

Aim: Aim of our study is to examine patients who were operated for adnexal mass in the peri-postmenopausal period, to discuss the relationship between preoperative ultrasonographic evaluation criteria and postoperative histopathological diagnoses and to evaluate whether these criteria have a place in preoperative diagnostic indexes. Material and Methods: 278 operated-patients January 2011-March 2014 were included retrospectively. The relationship between USG findings/CA-125 levels and postoperative histopathological types was investigated. Analyzes were completed using IBM SPSS 22 program. Results: While there was no statistically significant relationship between malignancy and multiloculity, a statistically significant relationship was found between malignancy and bilaterality, CA-125 level, solid-content, acid and cyst wall thickness. The rate of malignancy was higher statistically significantly in patients with a cyst wall thickness greater than 3 mm. Conclusion: Our study showed us that the use of mass size alone is insufficient to indicate malignancy, and by using mass wall thickness that can be measured by ultrasound together with scoring systems in preoperative evaluation, it can provide a better preoperative prediagnosis of malignancy. We think that the sensitivity and specificity of RMI will increase with the addition of mass wall thickness to RMI, which is frequently and practically used in many clinics
