Abstract

Industrialization in the Cyprus Island in recent years, concentration of the population in cities, construction of high rise hotel projects in coastal areas for tourism purposes have led to increase of high rise buildings on the country. As the floor height of the buildings increases, the loads transferred to the foundations also increase. Foundations must safely bear the loads transmitted to them from the upper structure and must not exceed the allowable settlement values. In this study, settlement based optimization of piled raft foundation systems which were designed due to bearing capacity and settlement problems in different soil groups of Cyprus Island has been made. Pile number, pile diameter and pile length values were used as variable parameters in piled raft foundation systems. As a result of the study, settlement based optimum pile number, pile diameter and pile length values were determined in both soil groups. While determining the optimum values, economy was also taken into consideration.
