Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences between the one of the commercially widespread found on the market educational software (named "Vitamin") that was used in experimental group and traditional teaching method that was used in control group on the cell division topic through students' achievements, changes on the acquired misconceptions and attitudes towards biology. The pre-test and post-test experimental design with equal control group was used in the study and was implemented to forty eight 9th grade secondary school students. Randomly, one of the classes was assigned as the traditionally designed teacher centered control group, and the other was assigned as the experimental group in which computer assisted learning with the tutorial software was used. An experimental research design including the cell division academic achievement test (HABT), the cell division.concept test (HKT) and biology attitude scale (BTÖ) were applied both at the beginning and at the end of the research. After the treatment, general achievement in HABT increased in favor of experiment group at (p < 0.05) significant level. According to results, using tutorial design educational software in teaching biology was very effective for students' achievement, increased students' attitudes towards biology education in a positive way, and also reduced the existing major misconceptions but did not sufficed on it's own to dismiss the misconceptions.

Özet

Ticari olarak piyasada yaygın olarak bulunan eğitim yazılımlarından birinin {"Vitamin" adlı yazılım) kullanıldığı sınıflardaki öğrencilerin geleneksel yöntemle eğitim verilen sınıflardaki öğrencilere kıyasla akademik başarı, sahip olunan kavram yanılgılanndaki değişimler ve biyoloji dersine karşı oluşan tutumlara göre ortaya çıkabilecek farklılıklarının ne olduğunun hücre bölünmeleri konusu ile belirlenmesi bu çalışmanın amacını oluşturmaktadır. Ön-test ve son-test eşit kontrol gruplu deneysel desenin kullanıldığı çalışma toplam 48 dokuzuncu sınıf öğrencisine uygulanmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan iki farklı sınıftan biri tesadüfi olarak seçilen ve öğretmen merkezli geleneksel öğretim yönteminin uygulandığı kontrol grubu, diğeri ise ders yazılımı kullanılan bilgisayar destekli öğretim yönteminin uygulandığı deney grubu olarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın öncesinde ve sonrasında Hücre Bölünmeleri Akademik Başarı Testi (HABT), Hücre Bölünmeleri Kavram Testi (HKT) ve Biyoloji Tutum Ölçeği (BTÖ) uygulanmıştır. Uygulama sonrasında HABT' deki genel başarı (p
