Çeşitli nedenlerle oluşabilen vitamin D eksikliğine bağlı rikets, pubertal büyüme döneminde seyrek görülmekle birlikte klinik veya subklinik olarak düşünülmesi gereken bir hastalıktır. Uygun şekilde güneş ışığından yararlanma ve diyetle yeterli D vitamini desteği alınması ise hastalığın gelişmesine ve büyümenin duraklamasına engel olacaktır. Bu konuya dikkat çekmek amacıyla "adölesan rikets" tanısı konan 13 yaşında kız hasta sunulmuştur.
