Abstract

The optimal values of ASTM C 494 Type A water-reducing admixtures extensively used the production of concrete are set forth in this study in relation with their contribution to the compressive strength gain. To accomplish this purpose, admixtures provided by two different producers such as product X and Product W were used in casting of concrete. The cements used in the program were Portland cement (PC 42.5) and Portland composite cement (PKÇ 32.5) with a content of 350 kg/$m^3$. Admixture was added to the mixing water as 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5% by weight of the cement content and a slump ranging from 12 to 15 cm was adopted for all mixes to achieve an equal workability. Control mixes with no admixture were also prepared using both cements for comparison. Based on the findings obtained, it can be concluded that the contribution of the admixtures to the compressive strength gain of concrete is not to the same extent and the optimal amount of admixture used varies depending on cement composition. The contribution of such admixtures to the compressive strength at 28 days of curing is not satisfactory in relation with constructional purposes in case they are used at ratios lower than 0.5%.

Bu katkı maddelerinin %0.5'in altındaki oranlarda kullanılmaları durumunda 28 günlük basınç dayanımına katkıları tatminkar değildir.
