Abstract

In terms of the economies of the economy of income and stock market relations are quite controversial. According to this, the stock market, which is a kind of barometer of the country's economy, has risen in parallel with the improvements in the economy, while the improvements in the stock market are the means by which the producer companies can obtain funds. On the other hand, improvements in income distribution may be more parallel to the increase in income, and the fact that high income holders suffer from significant losses in crisis periods may also be a factor in the distribution of income. In this study, the relationship between the Gini coefficient being measure of justice in income distribution and the stock market index were investigated in Turkey's economy for the period from 1986 to 2017. Since these two series used in the analyzes were not stationary at the same level, ARDL analyzes were performed. According to the findings, it was determined the existence of an inverse relationship between the Gini coefficient and stock index in Turkey's economy. Accordingly, the Gini coefficient declined in which justice was relatively high, in the years of crisis, and the stock market was relatively increased. In this case, building measure of justice policy in income distribution and growth in Turkey's economy can be said to be supportive factor to the stock exchange.
