Abstract

The issue of plant pests has worldwide importance. Various types of vegetables, fruits and plants grown in fields, gardens and greenhouses are damaged by insects. Insects' use of plants as food causes the plants to weaken or die. Today, chemical pesticides are widely used to protect against these pests. However, the consumption of these applied chemicals as residues in vegetables and fruits causes toxic substance accumulation in the body of humans and animals. In addition, these chemicals cause environmental pollution by being carried to the soil, underground waters, seas and lakes. In order to prevent this situation, the application of biological control (BC) instead of chemical control has become increasingly important. In this review, the microorganisms from which microbial pesticides (MP) are obtained and their mechanisms of action are discussed, market sizes around the world and related studies are examined. It has been reported that MPs do not have toxic effects on humans and animals and are effective bioagents in plant protection. With the increase in studies in this field and the spread of applications, reducing the use of chemicals that harm the environment and preventing the deterioration of the natural balance will be an achievable target all over the world.
