Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine seed and cone characteristics of cilician fir (Abies cilidca Carr.) and it's subspecies A. cilidca subsp. isaurica endemic to Turkey. Ten natural provenances were sampled from pure stands in tree altitude zones (1000 m-1250 m, 1250 m -1500 m and over 1500 m) in the natural distribution area of cilician fir in two seed-years (1993 and 1996) in southern Turkey. From each sample site phenotypicaly best 13 seed trees were chosen and thirteen cones were collected from each tree. Various cone and seed traits were observed and measured. In addition to some morphological characteristics some phenological properties of the species were observed.
