Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop the "Turkish Assessment Tool for Bilingual Children" to evaluate the language development of 12-72 month-old bilingual children and to conduct a study to establish its validity and reliability. The sample formed through the purposeful sampling method consisted of 772 bilingual children who were 12-72 months of age living in the provinces of Ağrı, Hakkari, Kars, Erzurum, Adıyaman, Ankara, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Mersin, Istanbul and Van where bilingual children were concentrated in Turkey. The “Turkish Assessment Tool for Bilingual Children” and the “Personal Information Form” developed by the researchers were used as the data collection tools. Based on the results, it may be said that the “Turkish Assessment Tool for Bilingual Children” was valid and reliable. It is believed that the assessment tool will help determine the Turkish language development levels of 12-72 month-old bilingual children living in Turkey, prepare appropriate curricula for those children, and understand the differences in the language development and acquisition in children.
