Abstract

Titanium was first used in aerospace industry as “a wonder metal” in the 1950s. Later, titanium was used in medical and dental field widespreadly. Titanium and its alloys are much widely used in production of dental implants, removable and fixed partial dentures in dentistry because of their excellent biocompatibility and corrosion resistance, low elasticity modulus and high strength. But further studies are needed to know optimum characteristics and manufacturing method for the application of titanium for fixed and removable prosthesis. This article presents a review of the literature about usage of titanium for dental practice.
