MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING IN OCCULT HIP FRACTURES Purpose: The role and importance of magnetic resonance imaging in detection of occult hip fractures. Material and Methods: Seventeen patients were evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging because of the clinically suspected hip fractures without radiologic evidence. The magnetic resonance imaging were done within twenty-four hours after the admission of the patients. Results: In 14 patients a fracture was detected while for remaining 3 patients final diagnosis was avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Conclusion: Magnetic resonance imaging is highly accurate in the assessment of occult fractures of the hip. Because its very helpful for the early detection, it provides the opportunity of the early definitive treatment of those fractures.

Kalça kırığından klinik bulgularla şüphelenilen, ancak radyolojik bulguların negatif olduğu 17 hasta magnetik rezonans görüntüleme ile değerlendirildi. Hastaların onu kadın, yedisi ise erkekti. Magnetik rezonans inceleme, hastaların görülmesini takiben ilk 24 saat içinde yapıldı. Hastaların ondört tanesinde kırık saptanırken, üç tanesinde ise avasküler nekroz tespit edildi. Magnetik rezonans görüntüleme kalçanın direkt radyografilerle tespit edilememiş kırıklarının saptanmasında son derece etkilidir. Bu kırıkların erken tanısında yardımcı olması nedeniyle kesin tedavinin gecikmeden yapılabilmesine olanak tanır.
