Abstract

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the effects of propofol-alfentanil and propofol-remifentanil combinations on intraocular pressure during laparoscopic surgery. Materials and Methods: After approval by the ethic committee, 54 patients aged between 18 to 36 undergoing gynecologic diagnostic laparoscopy were included in the study. Following the anesthesia induction with propofol (2-2.5 mg.kg-1), group I received alfentanil (10 µg.kg-1) bolus and then infusion of propofol and alfentanil (3-5 mg.kg-1.h-1 and 2.5 µg.kg-1min-1 respectively) where as group II received remifentanil (1 µg.kg-1.bolus) and then infusion of propofol and remifentanil (3-5 mg.kg-1.h-1 and 0.25 µg.kg-1min-1 respectively). Neuromuscular blockade was achieved by succynilcholine (1 mg.kg-1). Hemodynamic variables and intraocular pressures were recorded preoperatively, at 1st minute following the bolus dose of opioid, following the neuromuscular blockade and intubation, after intraperitoneal pressure reached 15 mmHg, following the Trendelenburg positioning and following supine positioning. Results: Intraocular pressure was decreased following anesthesia induction and succinylcholine application in group I (p=0.000 and p=0.029). It was increased following endotracheal intubation in both groups (p=0.000 and p=0.026). Diastolic arterial pressures were lower in remifentanil group than alfentanil group (p
