Abstract

The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of three different resin composites to one conventional and two hybrid ionomers and to determine failure modes of the adhesion area and surface structures by stereo microscope and SEM. For this purpose, six experimental groups each including 15 test specimens were prepared as described below: Group1: Dyract AP was inserted into standard holes in the acrylic blocks and after setting, the surfaces of the specimens were grinded by 320,400 and 600 grit discs. Without any further surface treatment, TPH resin composite was applied directly on to the surfaces of the specimens Group2: Vitremer was inserted into the standard holes and the surfaces of the specimens were grinded like first group. ValuxPlus resin composite was applied on the surfaces directly as in Group 1 Group 3: lonofil Plus was inserted into standard holes and the surfaces of the specimens grinded as previously described. Arabesk Top resin composite was applied on to the surface as in Group1 Group 4: Differing from the specimens in the first group, Dyract surfaces were etched and Prime&Bond2.1 dentin bonding agent was applied before TPH resin composite insertion Group 5: Differing from the second group, Vitremer surfaces were etched and Single Bond dentin bonding agent was applied before Valux Plus resin composite insertion. Group 6: Differing from the third group, lonofil Plus surfaces were etched and Solobond M dentin bonding agent was applied before Arabesk Top resin composite insertion. All the prepared specimens were stored in distilled water at 37$circ$C for 24 hours and were thermally cycled for 200 cycles at ( 5± 2) $circ$C and (55 ± 2) $circ$C with a 1 minute dwell time in each bath. Shear testing of bonded specimens was performed on Instron test machine using a crosshead speed of 1mm/minute. Means and standard deviations were calculated for each test condition (n=15) and compared for significant differences using ANOVA and Duncan tests. The best shear bond srength results were obtained from group 5 and group 4 specimens (20-20,7 MPa). There was no statistical differences between these two groups (P>0.01). The lowest values (5.7MPa) were observed in Group 3 (P
