Abstract

It has been well known that the addition of fluoride compounds to dental restorative materials prevents and/or reduces secondary caries. The aim of this study was to assess the inhibitory effects of flııoride that releasedfrom Fuji II LC and F2000 in vitro on secondary caries. Standardized class V cavities were prepared on buccal surfacesoffreshly extracted human primary molar teeth and restored with materials and opposing surfaces of each teeth were used as control surfaces. The teeth were submerged in acidified gelatin gel for 10 weeks for artificial caries formation. The teeth were sectioned longitunally and examined under polarized light microscope. The outer surface and wall lesion depths adjacent to the F2000 were higher than Fuji II LC (p
