Abstract

In this study, it is aimed that pre-service science teachers synthesize their content knowledge and technology skills, and develop multimedia products. In this study, pre-service teachers wrote stories based on scientists` lives and transferred their scenarios to the digital environment by using audio and visual elements. The study is unique in terms of pre-service teachers’ experiences that help them discover their thinking worlds. Qualitative case study design was applied as the research method and criterion sampling was used to determine the participants. The study was carried out with 50 senior pre-service science teachers studying at a public university in Turkey. Script texts and digital contents prepared by the participants and reflection forms were used as the data collection tools. Deductive content analysis technique was applied for the analysis of the data collected from these data sources, and key components in Turkey Competency Framework (TCF) were used as the main themes. Digital stories were analyzed using the digital story section of the Digital Storytelling in The Educational Context Rubric developed by Sarıca and Usluel (2016). According to the findings, pre-service teachers developed skills or gained awareness in many competencies in TCF. For example, pre-service teachers especially improved their written expression skills during the story writing and the process of digitizing made significant contributions to their speaking skills. On the other hand, pre-service teachers realize the role of imagination and creativity in scientific studies and benefit from their unique expressions. The videos prepared by pre-service teachers were largely above average for the four sub-dimensions on the evaluation rubric.
