Abstract

As a result of remarkable structural change in retailing, particularly in developing countries, during last two decades, multi-national firms have become dominant player and concentration increased in retailing. Market shares of the biggest first-five retailers increased in grocery, food and also food categories. It is found that the retail chains in many countries exercised the buyer/monopoly power against suppliers-consumer. Moreover, empirical studies found that restructuring lowered wages, reduced jobs and caused poverty. In Turkey, market share of organized retailing in FMCG reached 57.5% and the largest first-five firms in food retail sale exceeded 61% in 2008. It is determined that the chain retailers are exercised buyer power against suppliers.

Özet

Son yirmi yıllık dönemde özellikle gelişmekte olan ülkelerde perakende sektörün geçirmiş olduğu köklü değişimin sonucunda sektörde çokuluslu firmalar baskın duruma gelmiş ve yoğunlaşma oranları artmıştır. İlk en büyük beş firmanın satış payları bakkaliye, gıda ve hatta gıda alt grubunda (ör: sebze-meyve) artmaktadır. Araştırmalar birçok ülkede büyük zincir marketlerin tedarikçilere karşı tekel gücü kullandıklarını ortaya çıkarmıştır. Artan yoğunlaşmanın işçi ücretlerini düşürdüğü, iş olanaklarını azalttığı ve yoksulluğu arttırdığı ampirik araştırmalarla ortaya konulmuştur. Türkiye’de 2008 yılında organize perakendenin HTÜ ciro payı %57,5 ve ilk en büyük beş market zincirinin (Migros, Bim, Metro-Real, CarefourSA ve Tesko-Kipa) gıda perakende satışlarındaki payı %61’i aşmıştır. Zincir marketlerin tedarikçilere karşı monopson gücünü kullandığı tespit edilmiştir.
