Abstract

In this study, the control possibilities for two spotted spider mite [Tetranychus urticae Koch. (Acari: Tetranychidae)] were investigated by using the effect of attractant of marigold. The tests were conducted in two different environments, the laboratory and the field. Experimental studies were conducted on food preferences by using marigold and bean plants in laboratory conditions. According to the results obtained, it was determined that T. urticae did not prefer the bean plant in the same environment as marigold. The fieldwork was carried out in three (2x2m) cages each covered with a thin veil to prevent contamination of other pests from outside. All experiments were replicated 3 times. Each cage were planted 30 bean and 30 marigolds the row to row. Also, 60 bean and 60 marigolds were planted to each control cages. After both plants reached a certain length they were infected with T. urticae which had been grown on the bean plants in laboratory conditions. Counts were made for two months at weekly intervals. According to the results, it was found out that the density of T. urticae on bean leaves was much lower than it was on T. erecta leaves and that the density of the population of T. urticae on the bean did not exceed the economic threshold (leaf/ 3 living individuals) in any of the counts. As a result, the marigold was observed to have lured the T. urticae individuals. These results showed that marigold can be used by applying different planting methods to control T. urticae. The study carried out Plant Protection Central Research Institute in 2015 year.
