Abstract

Permanent first molars; taking on a key role in providing permanent occlusion of dentition, significantly involved in mastication and acts as a guide for the eruption of other teeth. However, permanent first molars teeth are the teeth most often lost due to caries and are most susceptible to caries. Uncontrolled extraction of these teeth causes many adverse conditions. Controlled extraction of permanent first molars in the appropriate time and correct occlusion conditions will minimize the need for orthodontic treatment of the patient. In this review, controlled extraction procedures of permanent first molar teeth with poor prognosis are explained and the factors necessary to ensure ideal occlusion are specified.
