Abstract

Relationship between systematic diseases and endodontic infections has always been an attractive topic in dental research. Current studies have shown that the presence of untreated, chronic oral inflammation may affect the progress of additional systematic disorders in future. The microbiological and immunological background of chronic inflammation also suggests this opinion. Untreated, chronic inflammation present in the oral cavity and the affect of root canal treatment in systematic disease progress is highly important in a clinical point of view. This review assessed the possible relationship between chronic endodontic infections with cardiovascular, chronic liver, haematological, respiratory system disorders and diabetes.
