Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of ovarian volume measured by two-dimensional ultrasound with clinical and hormonal measurements. Setting: Mersin University, School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Materials and Methods: The clinical features and hormonal measurements of 40 women with polycystic ovary syndrome were recorded. Thereafter, ovarian volume was measured by either transabdominal or transvaginal ultrasound. The correlation between hormonal and clinical para¬meters with ovarian volume was evaluated by Pearson correlation test. Results: Body mass index, serum LH and androstenedi-one levels were positively correlated with ovarian volume. Linear regression analyses showed that body mass index and serum LH levels were independently related with ovarian volume. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that there is a relationship between ovarian volume and certain clinical parameters and androgen levels. Standardized studies with large sample sizes are needed to clarify this issue.

Çalışmanın yapıldığı yer: Mersin Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Kadın Hastalıkları ve.Doğum A.B.D. Bulgular: Vücut kitle indeksi, serum LH ye androstenedion düzeyleri, over hacmiyle pozitif korelasyon göstermekteydi.
