Abstract

In this study, heat transfer performance enhancement of a car radiator by using pure water, water- based graphene oxide and water-based graphene nanoribbon nanofluids is investigated experimentally. Experiments are conducted at different fluid temperatures (36 °C, 40 °C and 44 °C) and flow rates (0,6 m3/h, 0,7 m3/h, 0,8 m3/h and 0,9 m3/h). Overall heat transfer coefficient, U is calculated from obtained results for graphene oxide (GO) and graphene nanoribbon (GNR) (0,01% vol. concentration) nanofluids. The flow rate of the air side which is used for cooling of radiator is kept constant. Overall heat transfer coefficient obtained from the experiments are compared with pure water and the nanofluids to determine increase in heat transfer performance. Results showed that, the highest amount of increase in the overall heat transfer coefficient is 8,7% for 0,01% GO-water nanofluid and 18,9% for 0,01% GNR-water nanofluid respectively.
