Abstract

Work and Family Life Reconciliation Policies and Women Employment: The Case of Sweden, Germany and the United Kingdom The aim of this paper is to analyse the legal regulations and institutional arrangements to reconcile work and family life in terms of women employment in the context of different welfare regime models. In this framework, as model countries Sweden for social democratic welfare regime, Germany for conservative welfare regime and the UK for liberal welfare regime are examined based on Esping-Andersen’s generally accepted welfare regime classification. The need for the development of work and family life reconciliation policies parallel to the increase in female employment causes the question of how countries in different welfare regimes respond to this need. In this sense, it becomes necessary to determine how and to what extent the practices of the countries in different welfare regimes are similar to or different from each other. Comparisons of Swedish, German and the UK country examples examined within the scope of this paper are based on data from the OECD family database
