Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effects of three different sowing dates of three safflower cultivars (Yenice 5-38, Dinçer 5-118 and 5-154) at two locations (Ankara: 25 March, 10 April and 25 April 1998; Antalya: 25 April, 5 May and 15 May 1998) on the yield and yield related traits. The traits such as plant height, the number of lateral branch, number of heads per plant, 1000 seeds weight and seed yield were significantly decreased when the sowings were delayed. Higher values of plant height, the number of seed per head and 1000 seed weight were obtained in Ankara; however, branch numbers were high in Antalya. The highest seed yields were obtained from the first (214 kg./da) and second (189 kg/da) sowing dates in each location. In this study, it was found that seed yield and oil content were 120-220 kg/da and 39-44 % respectively.
