Abstract

We report a 49 years old female who has applied to dermatology clinic with generalized pruritus complaints resulting in pigmentation and excoriation. In the first evaluation, patient was examined for primer skin diseases which can cause pruritus like skabies, urticeria, eczema and was surveyed through skin tests. After dematolojical and immunological examination and a number of investigations, the preliminary diagnosis of the patient was dermatitis artefacta. And the patient was referred to psychiatry clinic with this preliminary diagnosis. After psychiatric evaluation, the patient was diagnosed as psychogenic pruritus because there was paroxysmal attacks of pruritus, pruritus was closely related to emotional state and the patient was also aware of her role in the formation of lesions as a result of the urge to itch that could not be blocked. Clinical history, differential diagnosis and treatment process were discussed in this case which has been running for nine months with widespread skin lesions.
