Abstract

This study compared the effects of halothane, isoflurane and sevoflurane on liver in rabbits by using biochemical laboratory evaluation and histopathological investigation. New Zealand rabbits were assigned to 4 groups as three treatment groups and one control. These groups were anesthetized twice with oxygen 100%, halothane 1.4%, isoflurane 2.05% and sevoflurane 3.7% for six hours with ten-day intervals. In blood samples levels of hepatic enzymes were assessed and the livers were investigated histopathologically. The most increase was seen in the halothane, isoflurane and sevoflurane groups successively in the biochemical analysis. In the histopathological examinations, the most marked damage was observed in the halothane and isoflurane groups, and the least was in the sevoflurane group. But there was no significant difference between isoflurane and sevoflurane groups.
