Abstract

Mastitis, a breast tissue infection, is rarely seen in the neonatal period. This infection, which begins locally, may lead to serious complications, such as necrotizing fasciitis, brain abscess, osteomyelitis and sepsis. Mastitis generally occurs due to physiological hypert- rophy of breast tissue after being scrubbed, crushed or squeezed. Health personnel providing health services for newborns need to educate families in order to pre- vent this problem. The aim here is to emphasize the severity of this problem by reporting three cases of newborn neonatal mastitis. (J Pediatr Inf 2013; 7: 68-71)

(J Pediatr Inf 2013; 7: 68-71)
