Abstract

One of the most fundamental requirements of the permanent settlement of a place in ancient times as well as security is that it should have sufficient water resources and fertile lands. In this context, Cappadocia region has many streams. However, the lack of irrigation with channels in Cappadocia and the harsh climate of the region has been highly effective on the product variety. From the earliest times, the grain has been one of the main livelihoods the people of Cappadocia. However, due to the fact that is obtained from dry agriculture grain in the region, reasons such as low yield, hard and long lasting winters made it necessary to store the product in the best way. This situation became the subject of the ancient writers works, they explained the grain storage methods in Cappadocia in deital. In this study, in the light of written sources and archaeological findings the grain production and storage methods will be examined in Cappadocia Region from the Prehistoric Times to Byzantine Period.
