Abstract

Objective: To determine sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of subjects referred to a multidisciplinary sexual dysfunction outpatient clinic. Method: A standard data form was used to record sociodemographic characteristics, and data such as diagnosis, treatments, consultations and results of all referrals. Sexual function disorders were diagnosed according to the three basic criteria: (1) Persistent or recurrent disturbance in any sexual function phase (such as, premature ejaculation, anorgasmia); (2) The disturbance causes marked distress or interpersonal difficulty; (3) The sexual dysfunction is not due exclusively to direct phsiological effects of a substance (such as, an abused drug or a medication). Results: The presenting subject was male in 685 cases (68%) and female in 317 (42%). The mean age was 35±10.8 years; the ratio of married cases was 76.9%; the mean time elapsed untill admission was 48 months. At least one sexual dysfunction was identified in 93% of subjects. In male presenters with sexual dysfunction, 58% had erectile dysfunction, 42% had premature ejaculations; and in the female cases, the incidences ofvaginismus and sexual desire disorders were 66% and 25%, respectively. Conclusion: The majority of subjects consisted of males and married cases. Erectile dysfunction was the most common disorder in male presenters and vaginismus was the most common dysfunction in females. In more than one-third of all group sexual desire disorder was present. The results of treatment in cases who received sex therapy were in concordance with the literature.
