Abstract

Temporary henna tattoos have been more common among children and young adults especially on holiday spots in recent years. It is favourite because tattoo is temporary, the process takes short time, it is painless and cheap. However, the additives such as paraphenylenediamine used in henna tattoo mixtures in order to shorten the application time and to darken the color of henna, often cause allergic contact dermatitis. The other complications due to temporary henna tatoos are hypertrophic scar, keloid, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation and hypertrichosis. Localized hypertrichosis is reported in only a few cases, it is temporary and treatment is not necessary. We report a 8-year-old boy who developed allergic contact dermatitis and localized hypertrichosis on his back after temporary henna tattoo in summer holiday.
