Samipaşazade Sezai tek romanıyla şöhret kazanmış olmakla birlikte bizde kısa hikâyenin ilk örneklerini veren bir yazar olarak da önemli bir yere sahiptir. Küçük hikâyenin ilk örneklerinin verildiği Küçük Şeyler adlı hikâye kitabı bu çalışmanın öznesini oluşturmaktadır. Hikâyeler çeşitli yönleriyle incelenmiş, zaman zaman onun diğer hikâye kitaplarına da göndermeler yapılmıştır. Hikâyeler çoğunlukla sıradan olaylar içinde sıradan insanları merkezine alan bir kurguya sahiptir. Hikâyeler hem bireysel hem de toplumsal konuları işlemişlerdir.
