Abstract

Objective: The most frequent rheumatic diseases in children are Juvenie Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA) and Rheumatic Fever (RF) which still remain to be an important health problem in developing counties. Material and Methods: In our study, we aimed to assess clinical and laboratory finding of patients hospitalised for joint complaints and also to discuss RF and JRA with the enlighment of current literature. 39 patients thatwere hospitalised for arthritis and/or arthralgia, were retrospectively assesed in terms of age, sex, season of hospital admission, complaints at presentation, clinical and laboratory findings. Results: 38.6% were diagnosed as RF, 20.5% as JRA, 5.2% as septic arthritis, 7.69% as reactive arthritis, 5.2% as temporary synovitis and 2.56% were diagnosed as Behcet Disease andvasculitis. In ARF patients whom were diagnosed as having carditis clinically, % 87.5 had abnormal ECHO findings. In aUthe patients with no clinical carditis, ECHO results were normal Conclusion: JRA and RF are the most frequent rheumatic diseases among cases who come with the complaints of joint and sometimes A is not easy to make the differential diagnosis. If the decision is difficult, it is betherto diagnose as RF and begin to prophylaxis.
