Abstract

Objective: In this study, we analysed demographic properties and behaviours of women who desire to have a child devoted to possible healthcare risks and healthy pregnancy. Materials and Methods: Our research model was constituted of women desiring to have a child between March-April 2004 during home care visits in Kartal region in İstanbul. A representative sample of 142 women who desiring to become pregnant in 3 months and who accepted to participate to our study were questioned also in this period. In this definitive and analytical study, we used the scale of nursing outcome classification in preconceptional period (NOC) and the case defining form as data collecting tools. Our aim was to mesure information and behaviour levels of women about healthy pregnancy. We profited by SPSS programme to evaluate our research data. Results: When we analysed women about risks in preconceptional period; we found that 24.72% was risky about reproductivity 16.9% about systemic diseases and 18% about smoking. We also found that 45.3% got over measles, mumps or chicken pox at least and 90% knew nothing about laboratory examination in preconceptional period. Conclusion: Preconceptional consultancy procures effective solutions at the right time and also an ideal education environment with its content about pregnancy planning. It. determines risks and strategies for mother, fetus and pregnant populations. In this way, economic morbidity decreases and medical treatment becomes easier taking necessary precautions at the right time.
