Abstract

Aim of this study is to present a SCIWORA case in an adult which is less frequent compared to childhood and who had a blunt cervical trauma. Neurologic examination revealed consciousness and quadriparesis. He suffered hypoesthesia below level of C4 dermatoma. He had hypoactive deep tendon reflexes and no abdomen skin reflex. Patient had abdominal respiration and examinations of X-Ray, CT and MRI did not reveal any pathologic findings. To improve the neurologic deficits, it has great importance to recognize SCIWORA early for patient admitted to emergency room. And when it has been diagnosed, with the administration of steroids, motor disturbances may improve rapidly. Therefore column of patients who had spinal trauma with neurologic deficits should be immobilized unless radiologic examinations evaluated to prevent further morbitidy and mortality.
