Abstract

Central venous catheters are used for chronic hemo- access. Hickman catheter is an implantable venous catheter. Implantable venous ports are implanted by surgeons or anesthetists in an operating room. More recently, interventional radiologists have been inserting them using local anesthesia and fluoroscopic guidance. Hickman catheters can be inserted in subclavian, jugular or cephalic vein. They can be installed using ultrasound or not, percutaneous or surgical cut-down method. Venous port catheter placement has perioperative (early) and late complications. In this presentation, hematoma, an early complication of Hickman catheter, that can be life threatening, is emphasized.

Ultrasonografi eşliğinde veya ultrasonografi kullanmadan perkütan yada cut-down cerrahi yöntemiyle uygulanabilmektedir. Venöz port kateter yerleştirilmesinde erken dönem ve geç dönem komplikasyonları vardır. Bu sunuda, Hickman kateteri yerleştirilmesine bağlı erken dönemde gelişen hematomun yaşamı tehdit edebileceği vurgulandı.
