Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) which represents a remarkable risk factor for the development of coronary disease and mortality, a common disease seen in modern society, represents not only medical but also a social problem. One of the leading cause of death in Type 1 or Type 2 diabetic patients is cardiovascular disease. According to WHO (World Health Organization) data, in excess of 75% patients which have type2 diabetes mellitus die due to vascular problems. Diabetic individuals are 2-4 times more at risk than non-diabetic individuals for the development of cardiovascular diseases. In patients with DM, there is a high likelihood of rapidly progressing cardiomyopathy pattern whose mechanism is not yet clear. A number of proteins are thought to be responsible for the formation of cardiomyopathy in a diabetic setting. Diabetic cardiomyopathy is distinct from ischemic cardiomyopathy. Compared to normoglycemia, vascular smooth muscle proliferation and migration are highly induced in the glycemic environment, which is one of the main causes of diabetic cardiomyopathy. Cellular molecular mechanisms have a pivotal role in developing cardiomyopathy, the early phase of diabetic heart disease. G alpha class of G-proteins are one of the most important signaling changes seen in cardiomyopathy.
