Abstract

In this study the relationship between tax incomes and GDP for OECD countries are researched by using panel data analysis for the years 1989-2008. In this context with using unit root and co-integration tests related with panel data analysis, long-term co-efficents between per capita and tax incomes are studied. As a result of finding horizontal cross section independency, first generation unit root tests Levin-Lin and Chu (LLC), Breitung, Im-Peseran and Shin (IPS), Fisher ADF, Fisher PP and Hadri unit root tests are used. To test co-integration, Pedroni, Kao, Johansen-Fisher and Westerlund tests are utilized, while to forecast long-term co-efficent, DOLS forecaster is used. Tax elasticity conception refers to sensitivity of tax incomes over against the changes of national income. Thus an increase in tax incomes in parallel with an increase in national income shows that tax elasticity will get positive values. Tax elasticity gets positive values and these values are between 0 and 1 range. This situation is supported by the studies in economy literature. As a consequence of econometrical analysis according to co-integration relationship between per capita income and tax incomes, long-term co-efficents are found to be at arrange that changes between 0,3 and 0,5.
