Abstract

Important pigments from Cyanobacteria are chlorophyll a, β-carotene, asta-xanthine, phycocyanin, xanthophylls and phycoerythrin. Phycocyanin which is a natural colour substance, blue coloured, odourless, nontoxic, soluble in water, high fluorescent. These pigments can be used as natural pigments instead of synthetic pigments which are suspected carcinogens in food, pharmacy and cosmetic. They are used as fluorescence probe in microscopy, cytometry, immunology, histochemistry studies because of their fluorescent property. Additionally, they have potentials of usage as nutraceutical and pharmaceutical because of their effects of antioxidant and removing radicals. In this context, interest to production and usage of phycocyanin is increasing in recent years

Özet

Siyanobakterilerden elde edilen önemli pigmentler; klorofil a, ?-karoten, asta-ksantin, fikosiyanin, ksantofil ve fikoeritrin'dir.
