Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of diets containing virginiamycine and thyme essential oil on body weight gain, feed consumption and feed conversion ratio in Japanese quails. A total of 160 quail chicks were divided into four ex¬perimental groups öf 40 birds and fed'the following diets for 35 days: A) Control (C): bazal diet; B) C+100 g/tone thyme essential oil (TO); III) C+25 g/tone Virginiamycine; IV) C+ 100 g/tone TO+25 g/tone VIR of diet. Each treatment consisted of 4 replicates of 10 quail. Performance parameters were determined weekly. Feed were given as ad libitum. Body weight gain, feed consumption and feed conversion ratio values were affected significantly by dietary treatments throughout the experiment (P<0.05). By the end of the trial, birds fed diet containing thyme essential oil significantly increased body weight gain and feed consumption during the experiment. Body weight gain and feed consumption were increased 12.31% and 8.47% in quail consuming the thyme essential oil diet, respectively. Feeding Virginiamycin alone caused significant improved in feed conversion ratio during the experiment compared with the other groups. These results suggested that, thyme essential oil could be an alternative to Virginiamycin as growth promoters in Japanese quail.

Buna göre: A) Kontrol (K): bazal rasyon; B) K+100 g/ton Kekik uçucu yağı (KUY); C) K+25 g/ton Virginiamycin (VIR); D) K+100 g/ton KUY+25 g/ton VIR şeklinde hazırlanan 4 farklı deneme rasyonu 35 gün süreyle deneme gruplarına ad libitum yedirilmiştir.
