Abstract

Energy sources are on the verge of depletion due to the rapidly increasing needs. Considering the fact that buildings are one of the areas where energy is consumed the most, the importance of studies on reducing the energy used in houses — being the most important component of this area — become more prominent. In order to reduce energy consumption in buildings, it is important to determine to what extent the climatic and spatial parameters, design parameters of a building and artificial system parameters affect the energy performance of the building. In this context, it was aimed to determine the effect of the occupant behavior, which is found in the artificial system parameter group, on the energy performance of houses. For this purpose, it was examined that the effect of decreasing indoor temperature on energy consumption when the occupants were not in the building. The single-family house in the study were thought to be in Trabzon, Antalya and Erzurum. In addition, the change in the type and number of the occupants and accordingly the change in the periods of the buildings occupancy were discussed. At the end of the study, the change in energy consumption for each chosen city and occupant profile were analyzed.
