Abstract

Preseptal cellulitis is defined as inflammation and infec-tion confined to the eyelids and periorbital structures ante-rior to the orbital septum. Eyelid erythema, edema and inflammation may be very severe. A sixty-seven-year-old male patient presented with periorbital edema and redness of abrupt onset. Although orbital computed tomography showed inflammation confined to the preseptal structures; ophthalmologic examination revealed loss of light perception and projection resulting in severe vision loss and optic atrophy. Discoid lupus erythematosus was detected on skin biopsy from the zygomatic arch.
